Podcast Episode 26: That Paul Coffey tweet and other classic stories
Cam shares the story that went viral on Twitter – Paul Coffey’s act of kindness towards one of the Humboldt Broncos families.
We celebrate the podcast going Top 20 of all genres on iTunes Canada!
Cam talks about celebrating Halloween with the Montreal Canadiens and how he just might post these hilarious pictures from the 1970s dynasty team.
A few listeners asked Cam if any teachers played a role in his life – either positive or negative. Unfortunately, most of his memories are from suffering abuse from multiple teachers, starting in grade 1 and he shares those memories.
Cam talks about the need to overcome fear to succeed in sports, but also in life.
He shares a sad tale about a friend who worked on trains – this is one of Cam’s classic stories that only he can tell so well.
Cam was at a recent Edmonton Oilers game and gives his feelings on how the team is doing and whether he thinks they will make the playoffs this year. He specifically mentions Connor McDavid and Milan Lucic.
Also a discussion on how it’s tough to play a physical role in the NHL these days.

Paul Coffey and his act of kindness
Because of such high fan interest, I’m reposting this from my twitter account (@CamConnorNHL):
I have to share a story about Edmonton Oilers Paul Coffey and what a great man he is (because he is too humble to ever share this himself). At the Humboldt Broncos jersey event I attended a few nights ago, there was an auction to raise money for scholarships named in honour of the Humboldt players.
One of the most prized items up for auction was a guitar (pictured below, not my photo) that had the faces of all the Humboldt players that had passed from the bus tragedy. Understandably, two of the families of the players went into a bit of a bidding war for the guitar.
Eventually one family had the highest bid (around $6,000 I believe) and won the guitar. Later that evening, they also auctioned off the guitar that Tom Cochrane sang Big League with (pictured below).
Immediately, Paul Coffey bid $10,000 (knowing he probably wouldn’t be outbid) and won the guitar. He gave it right to the family who was outbid to ensure they also had a momento to take home with them. True class.
I speak about Paul’s act of kindness on Episode 26 on my podcast.
Podcast Episode 25:Cam Connor makes his Stanley Cup predictions and gives some heartfelt advice on how to coach kids
Cam Connor and his son Kristofer are back and talk about what they did this summer – Cam did a lot of golf and Kris recalls his golf trauma. Kris has a story about Steve Martin & Martin Short.
Kris is asked why he stopped working for the Edmonton Oilers and he talks about one incident that wasn’t what he was expecting.
After a great year picking Las Vegas Golden Knights to do well, Cam makes his next prediction and this time it’s who he thinks will win the Stanley Cup. Can he make it two years in a row doing well with his picks?
Kris mentions how he was in San Diego and this sparks Cam’s memories on playing in San Diego, including a story about a fan who jumped the glass and pulled out a knife.
Cam talks about goalie Jack Norris and why he wouldn’t let Cam shoot pucks on him and why.
This gets the podcast off topic with a story about what you never do to gorillas and why Kris quit working at the zoo (his first job) after being put in the bear’s den with bears still inside.
As hockey season approaches, Cam shares his experience of coaching minor hockey for close to 20 years. Advice on how to coach young athletes and why he hates ‘puke’ practices.
Make sure you listen to the end as he shares a really heart warming story that reminds us about the importance of a coach.

Podcast Episode 21: A tribute to Humboldt Broncos, sharing junior hockey stories
We’re back with a new episode dedicated to the Humboldt Broncos.
Cam shares his thoughts on this tragedy and offers his insight and shares some stories on his time playing junior hockey and taking long bus rides in the Canadian north. Playing in the juniors has probably changed a lot since Cam played junior, but his stories are really fun to hear.
Kris gets Cam to share another embarrassing story of a fight with a goalie. What does Cam do in that fight that he’s embarrassed to talk about (but does)?
Questions and discussions center around:
-Are goalies fair game to bodycheck when they leave the crease?
-Cam’s thoughts on his prediction that the Las Vegas Golden Knights would make the playoffs?
-Who’s to blame when a hockey team with lots of potential doesn’t make the playoffs? The coaches, management or players?
